Updating the jQuery Slideshow on my home page so it’ll look a little empty for a few days while I finalize the images. Before I was using images from my portfolio which is kind of redundant.

My First Bike Ride and RunKeeper App Review

By Jason | Published August 10th, 2010

Today my nephew and I rode around my trailer park, a couple of half hour rides taking a break in between for minor adjustments to my bike and for a much needed rest. I think I have the gears dialed in good now though so my next ride will be off the trailer park.

Of the two “Lite” version bike apps I downloaded I think I liked RunKeeper more than MotionX GPS. While MotionX is cheaper if you decide to buy the non “Lite” version, I found it to have way to many functions and options. I liked the simpler, easy to use and unfortunately the more expensive RunKeeper. It provided all the data I really could need or want and also uploaded it to my account on their website for sharing.

Here’s a link for the details on our first ride and our second ride. Looks like there were a few glitches in the pace on the first run but over all a very nice site to keep this information saved. Best of all, even with the “Lite” version, it’s all free! After the near 5 mile ride my legs are worn out, especially since I haven’t been on a bike for 16 years, but tonight I’m sure I’ll sleep very well.

Schwinn Avenue Hybrid Bike

By Jason | Published August 3rd, 2010

I recently started working out again and wanted to do something to work out my legs (and for additional exercise) so I began looking for a nice bike. Found quite a few but the one that really caught my eye was the 700c Men’s Schwinn Avenue Hybrid Bike for sale at Walmart. With 123 reviews and an average of 4.5 stars it seemed like it would be a good bike.

When I received it I was very happy with the quality of the bike and easily assembled it. Having some difficulties getting the gears to work properly but that’s just because I don’t have the knowledge. Once I get them dialed in I think it’ll be an excellent bike for additional exercise.

On a side note, I also purchased an iPhone 4 bike mount kit from Foomy. It looks to be a very solid bike mount and starting to check out some of the “Lite” versions of bike GPS apps for the iPhone.

Newspaper Business and Service Directory Ad

I decided to try out adding a classified ad in the Business and Service Directory of the local paper to see if what kind of work it would bring in. Seems to have worked a little, not as much as I would have liked, but at least covered the cost of the ad. The ad has only run for 5 days so I still have 23 days to go, hopefully I’ll get some more.

On a side note, I do plan on getting the HTML of that PSD Theme finished. Not sure when but probably in the next week or two.

Finding a good Mac sync application

By Jason | Published February 8th, 2010

I’ve been looking for a solution to keep my website designs, modified purchased designs, graphic layout, documentation, etc. organized on two Mac’s for a week or so now. Most of the “sync” mac software solutions I came across seemed dead. Most of the software companies that had a blog/news section, haven’t had a post for a year. The ones that didn’t contain a blog/news section, their copyright footer was 2008 or earlier. So I’m not going to spend money on a product that, more than likely, hasn’t been updated for years.

By the way, this is my setup. Aluminum MacBook 13″ connected to my 21″ LCD (shared with my PC, for when I feel like playing a game), my new MacBook Pro 17″ (yay for tax right-offs) and of course a Apple Time Capsule. Pondering getting one of those Mac Mini Snow Leopard Servers this year too.

So, anyway, I had used Subversion at my last job (not much, just enough to be dangerous with it) and decided to see if there was a Mac version of it. Which, of course, there is and that’s no surprise. I decided to download Collabnet Subversion binary package and install it on my MacBook 13″. I initially tried accessing the repositories by accessing them through the finder on my MacBook 17″ (i.e. file://macbook13/repository), that worked fine for checking out but error when I tried to commit files to the repository. I forget the error, something about a lock file.

So I enabled Remote Login on the 13″ MacBook and and then I setup the repository bookmarks (oh, by the way, I was using a demo of Versions, subversion client which I’ll more than likely buy now) using svn+ssh://macbook13/repository and everything worked great!

Couple of Web Designs in Progress

I have a couple websites I’ve been working on that should hopefully go live here pretty soon. One is for the Central Coast Quarter Midget Association and the other for Lines and Designs, a Las Vegas based company which does vehicle wraps, vehicle graphics, painted pinstriping, etc.

Business Slowed Down a Little

Not much has been going on, company wise, lately. Which is unfortunate but I do have a advertising plan I’ll be putting into place next week which includes reduces fees plus donations to local charities. I’m hoping that’ll help to pick up some extra work. Please check back for more information on that next week.

I’ve not stopped sharpening up my web design skills though as I have been going through numerous tutorials to help extend my knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator along with broadening my web design and layout skills. I’m working towards creating some WordPress templates to sell on Theme Forest and hope to have some up there by the end of next week.

Assigning New IP Address

Assigning a new, exclusive, IP address to my site in order to install a SSL certificate to it. There might be some interruptions to the site because of this but hopefully not to much, or for to long.

Some layout issues to be resolved

Well, the site is now public but there are still some issues I need to resolve. Most importantly is the menu bar in IE is not displaying correctly, sorry about that, that’s my top priority right now.

Other issues is a few page titles showing up incorrectly along with additional graphic updates I’m working on (just additions to the current images). Hopefully get those taken care of in a few days as well.

Other than that, welcome to my company’s website!

Site is almost done!

Been working day and night on it, trying to get the site layout to my liking plus filling in the usual needed information for About, Contact, etc. I think it’s coming along nicely but may be changing the header color a bit today.
